Video SEO For Car Dealers - Part IV - Completing Your Video Search Engine Optimization

Now that you have created your video segment, you are ready to upload your video online and complete your video search engine optimization (video SEO) so as to have your video optimally placed online to be found by your prospective viewers. This article will share where to upload your video, how to upload it with proven video SEO techniques, and how to monitor and improve the video's performance online over time.

The easiest answer on where to upload your videos online is to search online for similar videos, and see where they have been uploaded. Great places to upload your videos include Youtube, Flickr, Google videos, and MySpace. Regardless of where you upload your videos, almost all will require the same information to upload. Your title is very important. When you select your video to be uploaded, many of these sites will read the title of the clip you browsed for, and automatically insert that as the title. Remember that the title is going to be read by the search engine, so ensure that it includes the primary words that describe your clip, and are most likely to be searched for by a prospective viewer. For new cars, the year/make/model are the most commonly searched words, so we might title our video "2009 Buick Lacrosse". You might also consider adding the name of your dealership, and/or your location with the video clip. It is tempting to add lots of words to the title to try and address every possible search, but this can hurt you in the long run. The search engines like titles that directly match up to the search query terms that your prospective viewers are inputting. If you are unsure of what to use - search online and see what other videos that have had lots of views use as their titles. This is a universal answer to many of your questions when completing video SEO. See what works for others and has been successful, and use for yourself.

You will now have the opportunity to write a short description of the video you have just uploaded. This is also read by the search engines, and where the search engine will pull a snippet of information to post with the search engine results. Briefly describe what your video is about, and make sure to use some of the key words that your viewers will be searching for. The search engines want to find a result that is relevant to the prospective viewer's search, so it will be looking for those words in your description. If you made a video for someone looking for oil changes in Lexington, your description might read "This video features our Lexington dealership which has no-wait oil changes that require no appointment. For Lexington oil changes, come visit us!" There will also be a line that asks for keywords. Take some time to enter keywords, or keyword phrases that you believe your prospective viewers would be looking for. If unsure, don't forget - just search online to see some similar examples to find the ways other videos with great success have done it. Using our previous example, some great keywords might include "oil changes" and "Lexington oil changes".

Depending on the website you are uploading to, you might then have the option to add categories, or whether you want your video to be open to comments or ratings. My suggestion is that if you have the opportunity to add more information on any site, take the time to provide that information. This helps you, and the website host, to ensure that all of the relevant information about your video is available to any prospective viewers. I also encourage you to allow ratings of your videos. If you did a poor job on your video, the best way to find out is from your viewers and their ratings. On the other hand, if you did great, your video will rate well, and that will increase views, which you will see is very important in the future.

After you have uploaded your videos, take some time to monitor their performance online. You can do this in two ways. First, many of the places you can upload your videos online will allow you to see how many views they have online. The more views your videos receives, the better. The second, and better way to monitor your performance, is to search online and see where your videos appear in the search engine results. You will find that your videos will search near the top of the results upon initial upload, as the search engines see your video as new information, and they give them immediate relevancy in the search results. Over time, the videos will start to go further back in the results. How do you keep them at the top? You need to continually promote your videos to ensure there is ongoing traffic to view them over time. This might be via an email campaign, or using a link to your video within a blog posting, or other similar approaches. Over time, with lots of views, the search engines will see your video as more relevant if it continues to be viewed online, and you will be rewarded with top of the page results.

As I finish this 4 part series, I would strongly encourage you to not feel intimidated by attempting to create your own videos and then using video SEO tactics to get them placed optimally online. Have fun and be creative in making your videos, and don't be afraid to make mistakes. Experiment with where and how you post your videos online, and monitor your results. Over time you will find what works best for your goals, and you can adjust and make your future videos and video SEO techniques better!
